Students Arriving in Ottawa Finding Few Rental Options

Ottawa's summer is coming to an end and this means students from Ottawa's Universities and Colleges are back in Ottawa looking for apartments for the school year to come.
vacancy rate in ottawa is low
Those who were able to secure apartments before the summer started are feeling a sigh of relief as they will not have to compete with those looking for spaces for September 1st. The latest CMHC data from October 2017 shows Ottawa's vacancy rate at 1.7%. Average rent for the City at that time was $1,136.
According to PadMapper, a popular rental website says property prices saw double digits growth in 13 of the 25 Canadian cities last year. The median price one-bedroom apartment in the City of Ottawa in July was $1,250 up 15.7% from last year.

Things to do in Ottawa - Museum of Nature

The Canadian Museum of Nature located at 240 McLeod Street in Ottawa is a great spot for the family to spend an afternoon. It is currently hosting the Brain "The Inside Story" exhibit until September 3rd 2018.
Some of the permanent galleries are the Fossil Gallery, Earth Gallery, Mammal Gallery, Water Gallery, Bird Gallery, Nature Live with insects, Stone Wall Gallery and the Landscapes of Canada Gardens outside of the front doors. Finally, a new permanent gallery opened in 2017 called The Canada Goose Arctic Gallery.
Driving along McLeod Street one will notice the large glass structure over the front doors. Known as the "Queens' Lantern" this dramatic space inside the museum currently has a large Jellyfish hanging from its ceiling and is visible from the outside.
General admission prices for adults is $18.50 while the cost is $16.50 for seniors and students. Children (3-12) is $14.50. Please note the Canadian Museum of Nature is free on Thursday evenings from 5pm to 8pm as well as on July 1st (Canada Day).

Things to do in Ottawa - Ottawa Champions Baseball

Ottawa has a professional baseball team playing in the Can-Am League. Founded in 2014 the team has won 1st place in the Can-Am league in 2016 defeating the Rockland Boulders. Games are played at the Raymond Chabot Grand Thornton Park (or RCGT Park) located at 300 Coventry Rd just off HWY 417.
Located close to Downtown Ottawa getting to a game is very convenient as one can take the Light Rail Train once it opens and get off at the Tremblay Station of the LRT. Parking on site is $5. The RCGT park has a capacity of 10,332.
For a fun, cheap night out catch one of their home games by visiting the Ottawa Champions website
Tickets are $14 for adults, $11 for seniors and students, youth (6-15) is $5. Come for a Saturday night game and enjoy fireworks after the game!
Here are pictures from my summer client appreciation night in the private RCGT booth.
