A few year later in 1913 the neighborhood of Eastview became a town. It was once popular for civil servants who wished to live at a distance from downtown. In later year Eastview saw many French-Canadians moving in it quickly became the main francophone area in the capital. After becoming a city inf 1963 it was renamed a few years later in 1969 to Vanier after Governor of Canada, Georges Vanier.
